Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy for Hair Loss
PRP contains special cells called platelets that cause growth of the hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells and other cells in the microenvironment of the hair follicle. Human blood contains mesenchymal stem cells and autologous blood products that contain essential growth factors that help in the aid of tissue healing and rebuilding. The primary purpose of using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive hair follicles into an active growth phase.
How does Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy Work?
PRP for over two decades has been used with positive outcomes. In the field of hair restoration, there is evidence that indicates that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a promising treatment option for both men and women in the promotion of hair regrowth and hair restoration. While this treatment is in the early stages of research as applied to hair restoration, PRP is not meant to replace current FDA approved hair loss treatment therapies such as DHT blockers or Minoxidil. It is, however, a viable and promising non-surgical hair restoration treatment option for patients suffering from hair loss and thinning hair.
As with all medical procedures, it is important to remember that results vary from one patient to another.
Procedure
Your own blood will be collected and once the blood is collected, it’s placed in a sterile FDA approved container specially designed to process platelets, growth factors, and stem cells. The components in your blood are separated by spinning in a centrifuge, concentrating the platelets. The PRP, which contain an abundance of growth factors and stem cells, can then be applied to the scalp in the areas of hair loss. The scalp will be stimulated before the procedure to accelerate the healing process. No anesthesia is required; however, we can numb the area if the patient prefers. During the PRP application, a very fine micro needle is used to inject the PRP to stimulate collagen production.
Candidates
PRP therapy is effective for both men and women’s hair loss. Platelet-rich plasma is capable of hair regrowth for all types of hair loss and thinning, including alopecia. This can be used as a stand-alone procedure to stimulate new hair growth, or it can be accomplished in combination with the use of Thro-Grower.
Program Includes:
• PRP hair treatments, each 30-days apart
• Thro-Grower (topical, scalp-friendly, patent pending minoxidil product with moisturizing base)
On average, patients can begin to see new hair growth within 2 to 3 months of the initial PRP hair treatment. The most noticeable results usually occur by 3 to 4 months. Many patients choose to come in for maintenance PRP treatments about every year to year and a half.
