What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a noninvasive technique in which a manual exfoliation is used on the skin to remove layers of dead skin cells, excess oil and “peach fuzz hair” (vellus hair). By removing the top layer of dead skin cells, the skin must regenerate, leading to brighter, smoother skin. There is no downtime after receiving this treatment. The frequency of dermaplaning varies, but is typically every 4 weeks.
Contraindications
Some contraindications to dermaplaning are sensitive skin, skin cancer, eczema, rosacea, keratosis pilaris or severe acne. It is important to avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen in the days immediately following your treatment. Retinol and exfoliants should also be avoided for the first 24 hours after treatment.
